The Benefits of Outdoor Play

Playing outdoors offers children a wide range of developmental benefits, from improving physical health to enhancing cognitive and social skills. One of the most enjoyable and educational outdoor activities is flying kites. Assembling and flying a kite involves both fine and gross motor skills, which help children develop hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness. The process of constructing a kite—attaching the frame, securing the strings, and adjusting the design—encourages creativity, problem-solving, and patience.

When children engage in kite-flying, they also experience the value of persistence. The wind may not always cooperate, but through trial and error, they learn to adapt and adjust their techniques. This resilience-building aspect is essential for emotional development. Additionally, flying a kite in an open space can boost children’s sense of independence and self-confidence as they master a new skill.

Socially, kite-flying encourages teamwork and communication, whether children are working together to launch the kite or simply sharing the fun with others. The outdoor setting also provides an opportunity for physical exercise, promoting strength, balance, and coordination as they run and navigate the kite’s flight.

Ultimately, kite-flying is a fun, dynamic activity that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and physical activity, all while connecting children with nature.

Brilliantly Simple Design

BEAUTIFULLY SIMPLE

When we set out to design these kites, we wanted to make them fun, tough, simple to build and super-easy to fly. Take it out of the bag and the kite unfolds so you can easily see what goes where. Insert one pole, tie on the string and you're good to go.

But if you do get stuck, you'll find an instruction card in the bag. Oh yes, we've included as matching bag so the bits don't get lost.

Child's Play

TRIED & TESTED

The kite has just one seperate pole and can be assembled by a child, with guidance, in less than a minute. We have sky-tested these kites with kids as young as 3 and found they are very quickly flying solo.

The handle is made from certified timber plywood.  It's large loop design makes it easy for little hands to hold and it has tie-off hooks so it won't accidentally unravel.  The kite line is made from 100% natural cotton.

SUSTAINABILITY AT HEART

Our Lofty Kites are created from recycled ripstop fabric made from waste plastic. The handle is made from certified timber and the line is cotton. All our packaging is plastic free.

DURABLE TO THE END

The fabric is incredibly tough and the fibre glass support rods almost impossible to snap. Together they make the kite extremely light and strong and give it the flexibility and strength to withstand any sudden crash landings.
